The L Suite, a community for in-house legal executives, has acquired Luminate+, an e-learning platform that aggregates continuing legal education content from major law firms into a Netflix-style streaming service.

The L Suite said that the acquisition, announced today, will enable it to address a longstanding need for practical learning tailored for modern in-house counsel by providing its members – primarily general counsel and chief legal officers – with access to high-quality CLE content.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The deal provides The L Suite’s 4,000-member community with access to Luminate+’s technology platform and its content partnerships with law firms such as Davis Polk, Orrick, Goodwin, Baker McKenzie, and White & Case.

During an interview in advance of the announcement, Andrew Dick, the former big law attorney who founded Luminate+, told me that his platform addresses inefficiencies in how law firms distribute their CLE webinar content and how lawyers consume it.

While law firms produce thousands of valuable CLE webinars annually, Dick said, this content often reaches only a fraction of its potential audience due to the constrictions of live-only formats and fragmented distribution.

“Law firms are doing tons of webinars since the pandemic … Some are doing 100, 200, 300 a year,” Dick said. “They’re getting 3, 4, 500 people registering for these programs, half or more of whom don’t end up showing up for the webinar because of a conflict.”

But once the webinar airs live, law firms do little more with them because they lack the technology required to offer CLE credits for on-demand programming.

The Luminate+ platform allows law firms to extend the shelf life of their webinar content by making the recordings available on-demand and handling all the technical requirements for CLE accreditation.

“It’s pretty easy to offer CLE credit for a live program,” Dick said. “On demand is a very different process. You need to have a system that can track attendance, track participation.”

Free and Paid Access

Under the acquisition, L Suite members will receive complimentary access to Luminate+ through their member hub.

Others can access the content through a paid subscription. The platform currently offers two subscription tiers for non-members: a base plan at $250 annually per user providing access to law firm CLE content, and a premium plan at $750 annually that includes exclusive content featuring general counsel perspectives and insights.

The company is also currently offering a seven-day free trial.

The deal represents a strategic expansion for The L Suite, which has built its business around creating exclusive communities for legal executives. The organization hosts over 300 events annually and provides an online platform for member collaboration.

Greg Raiten, co-founder of The L Suite, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s ability to serve legal executives who need rapid access to learning resources across various legal and regulatory topics. The combined offering aims to bridge gaps between law firms and in-house legal departments while creating what Raiten called “a richer, more impactful learning ecosystem.”

“By integrating Luminate+’s cutting-edge platform with The L Suite’s robust community and industry-leading content partnerships,” Raiten said, “we’re transforming how legal professionals engage with CLE — enabling seamless access to a comprehensive library of essential knowledge aggregated from the world’s top law firms.”

For Luminate+, the acquisition provides immediate access to The L Suite’s established community and law firm relationships, addressing what Dick described as “chicken and egg” challenges in building both content partnerships and user engagement as a standalone company.

The platform will also build on its affiliation with The L Suite to develop new content specifically for law firms, including a curriculum featuring insights from 25-30 general counsel on improving client service.

“We’re going to do a whole curriculum that associates and partners of firms can watch and get their CLE credit where they get to hear directly from GCs about the things that work really well and the things they hate,” Dick said.

The company will continue operating independently under Dick’s leadership, with the founder taking on the additional role of vice president of strategic initiatives at The L Suite.

The acquisition also included LINK, a legal operations community cofounded by Dick and Stephanie Corey, which will be integrated into The L Suite’s family of executive communities.
