Law practice management company Clio today named a general manager to oversee its operations in Canada, part of what it says is a doubling down on strategic expansion in its home market.

The new GM, Luke Slan, will lead the company’s efforts to drive growth and innovation tailored to the unique needs of the Canadian legal market.

The Toronto-based Slan comes to Clio from … well … from Clio. He has been with the company for seven years, most recently as senior manager of solutions engineering and earlier as an account executive.

Before joining Clio in 2018, he was director of sales at Guardly, a provider of enterprise mobile security solutions. He began his career at a Big Four accounting firm and then worked as an associate at a venture capital firm.

Clio says it plans to expand its market presence and product offerings in Canada with a strengthened cross-functional team spanning product and engineering, sales, marketing, and channel partners.

It says it is also refining its core products to better serve the specific needs of Canadian legal professionals.

“We’re really excited to supercharge our efforts to deliver solutions that Canadian firms need to meet the evolving needs of their clients,” Slan said in a press announcement. “With a stronger local presence and a team fully dedicated to this market, we’re about to set a new standard for what legal tech can do for law firms here.”

Clio was founded in Canada, where it is one of the country’s largest technology companies of any kind. It is headquartered in Vancouver and has offices in Calgary and Toronto.
