An event yesterday adjacent to Legalweek in New York marked the official launch of the Association for AI in Legal (A4L), a membership organization that aims to bring together legal professionals, technologists, and policymakers to responsibly navigate the complexities and leverage the power of artificial intelligence.
The association plans to provide education, resources, and a collaborative community to empower legal professionals in the age of AI. A mission statement on its website says:
“We advance the responsible application of AI in legal practice by identifying emerging challenges, providing implementation guidance, and addressing critical ethical considerations. Through collaborative research and education, we empower firms to innovate with confidence while maintaining the highest standards of legal practice.”
A4L plans to focus on initiatives in four key areas:
- Education and training: A4L will offer workshops, webinars, and resources on AI-related topics, from introductory concepts to advanced applications.
- Community and networking: A4L will provide a platform for legal professionals, AI developers, and policymakers to connect, share knowledge, and collaborate.
- Ethical and regulatory guidance: A4L will develop best practices and standards for the responsible and ethical use of AI in the legal profession.
- Resources and tools: Members gain access to cutting-edge AI research, policy documents, and vendor best practices.
“AI is rapidly transforming the legal landscape,” says Scott Kveton, CEO of CaseMark and co-founder of A4L. “Our mission is to ensure that legal professionals are not just keeping pace, but are equipped to lead this transformation.”
Chelsey Lambert, founder of Legal Tech Decoded and cofounder of A4L, adds, “We envision a future where AI enhances the practice of law, making it more efficient, accessible, and just. A4L will be the catalyst for this change.”
A4L invites legal professionals, technologists, and policymakers to join its mission. Inaugural memberships are now open, with special opportunities for law firms to shape the future of AI in law.
